We are here to help with your cleaning needs following a death by homicide, suicide, or unattended death.
A crime scene cleanup may involve a homicide involving more than one victim, or a single victim. At times, suicide may occur, which is a homicide.
We know that Aristotle commented on suicide, but it was a groundbreaking book in the field sociology that changed the study of suicide. The French monk, Émile Durkheim began an organized analysis of suicide. Durkheim wrote the book, "Suicide." Published in 1897, Durkheim's book was so well presented that it became a model for what a sociological monograph should look like. Durkeim's sociological approach to explaining behavior by suicide studies continues today.
He came to explain suicide as having one of a number of causations:
Egoistic suicide is a term used to explain suicide relating from weak social bonds. Durkheim found that divorced men had weaker social ties, which could be used to account for suicidal behavior. In our work, we sometimes think that we see evidence of these weak relationships when cleaning in Florida.
Altruistic suicide is term used to explain suicide relating to self-destruction for the benefit of others. In the Florida biohazard cleaning business, we have not seen evidence of this type of suicide. However, perhaps some suicides occur because an individual means the loss of his or her life will somehow benefit relationships of others. Durkheim saw this occurring when an individual felt that they were a burden to others.
Anomic suicide is a term used to explain events and social patterns leading to weak social rules. The individual no longer feels bound by previous social controls. Economic and social changes tend to sever the rules for some people. As a result, they may tend to believe that “all the rules are off.”
What was unimaginable becomes an avenue to ending it all.
Fatalistic suicide is a term used to explain suicide resulting from an authoritarian control over the individual. Life is “hell” and the only foreseeable out is suicide. Ancient slavery would provide an example of a society leading to this type of suicide.
In our sociological readings and experience, some combinations of the above could be at work in suicidal behavior. There is a lot going on.
